Concur, across the board.

There's several directions to think about hate speech, but before taking any of them seriously, it's worth thinking why so many people get so misled when it comes to 'free speech.'

Millions of Americans mistakenly believe that the Washington "Redskins" football team was 'forced' to change its name as a result of political correctness. Nonsense. Rather, a trademark issued to the 'Redskins' was invalidated because no trademark can ever uphold a racial slur. Without that trademark, the Redskins' owners could not prohibit others from printing 'knockoff' merchandise, nor could they access certain telecast rights linked to payment for use of their trademark logo.

Misperceptions like that are stoked deliberately. When someone does not actually care at all about 'free speech,' they can claim that the Left is a serious threat and will throw them in jail for using words like 'Redskins' - only THEY can protect you from the phantom menace! A form of argumentation not unlike those used to convince Confederate soldiers that the Yankees were coming to 'destroy their way of life' - even if the soldiers had never owned slaves...
