Curious about the resistance to bus segregation. IIRC, many Black Americans rejected segregated bus seating - but the NAACP and SCLC wanted to find "model" Black citizens to back so their efforts wouldn't be thwarted. There's been some backlash about those tactical decisions and the politics of respectability generally, but I wonder how fair that really is - faced with a threat of a lynching at all times, organizers tried to choose their battles.
What do you see as her greatest contribution to civil rights in NC and more broadly, and why?
