The first in a series, and a flash of hilarity that suddenly made sense of a senselessness. Many dating profiles I’ve come across strike me as ironic approximations of actual human beings — fakes thrown together to detect cheaters, or to seek some strange sort of validation, or just to track down stories and pass the time.

Why not reach out with a bit of rhyme — as I’ve done for quite some time — but mock the entire context for its endearing/crass crushing implausibility?

So, an Ode to Kim: I knew ye not, but thus did I write:

On Kim’s path toward enlightenment,
Legs refracting sunlight, shine
Smiling poised, immaculate
No strand askew, coifed, refined
May the blissful breaths she counts
compassionately abound.

Robin Williams in ‘Dead Poet’s Society’ proclaimed that the purpose of poetry is to woo women. That may be true, but in general, 21st century women do not seem to be impressed nor attracted to poetry. At least, not with my own.

Still, it’s more harmless fun than much of the rot and crass bowel bilged stuff tossed about in a world of online dating.

I have no idea if there is a real person who looks like this named “Kim.” There was an online profile once, but no idea whether that had any association with such a person. Whoever this was did have other images showing meditation and mindfulness, which was a huge deal during Covid.
