Twitter with paywall
Might be big as Medium.
Better than Truth.soc. ;-)

Photo by Esperanza Doronila on Unsplash When Musk finished purchasing Twitter, he proclaimed that “the bird is free” — then proceeded to describe how to raise money to pay for his purchase. I suspect the bird looks more like these guys now than it did a year ago.

‘You shall soon have a bird now, Eliza; for I believe a goldfinch has just hatched some young in this tree, and I will tell one of our men to watch it: when they are fledged you shall have the finest.’

Anonymous, “My Bird and My Dog” (1816) (from Project Gutenberg)

I am not entirely sure why this story has been preserved digitally for the ages. Maybe someone thought it was really cool to take a goldfinch and pop it into a cage 200 years ago? And perhaps somehow that had something to do with why people attribute so many billions of dollars of value to platforms that matter mainly for the appearance of being free as a bird’s song?

When Musk took over Twitter, he tweeted, “the bird is free.” Really?

I don’t know why caged birds sing. Some birds probably don’t. Some folks believe they must ‘own’ a thing in order to ‘free’ that thing. Free from what?

The use of emojis in haiku probably predates the syllable count system and goes back to the origins of pictographic writing systems. So :-) doesn’t count as a syllable.

Jury is still out on whether “Truth.soc” is “truth” “dot” “sock” — which would violate the haiku rules - or two syllables, “truth socks.” As in, someone forgot to put on truth socks when they started tweeting.

Please don’t sue me: I cannot afford to buy the Haiku universe and change it to set it free.
