It's difficult to distinguish 'nationalism' from 'nihilism' - the two concepts have been entwined since the dawn of nationalism.

Perhaps it's more helpful to think of the GOP as struggling with a logical absurdity: if GOP officials count the votes, control the judiciary, the legislature, governorship, most of law enforcement, and they STILL cannot find fraud, either they are so inept/incompetent that they aren't any use at all, OR they are in on the fraud. Most people (and any GOP officeholders) recognize the problem that presents.

Hate bypasses that set of contradictions, externalizing the fury,. Yet there's risks involved in doing so - every authoritarian cynically exploits hate somewhere to justify their means of governing. In America, our billionaires are fairly certain that if authoritarians win, they can live comfortably on their yachts, on Mars, in space, on the Moon, or in some other country. When the risks result in such small harm to them and their families, why not gamble with other people's lives? Not like they haven't done that for decades...
