Odder and order. Applying an economic model to cultural matters is relevant whenever cultural matters concern scarcity of resources: the issue crops up in most dynamics (or at least, most family units report economic conditions influence their relationship). Whether a Marxist, a Keynesian or a Freidmanite, it is odd to contend that applying some methods is 'harmful' - or rather, it is anti-liberal, unless one has a clear rubric that establishes why one is harmful and one is helpful.
But what rubric is so clear? Most moralists come to acknowledge limits in their systems (Aristotle didn't, but I'd be hesitant to ban him for the same reason I'd hesitate to ban Marx or Moses - even problematic systems have their place in a liberal order, largely because every known stst is problematic somewhere).
