They'll need to find an audience first, lest they get replaced by stringers, freelancers, or simply shrugged aside.

After a decade or more as a migrant worker in Africa and the Middle East, it seemed to me that every migrant's story and every host community faces multilayered ambivalence - taking from whatever language gives them to establish metaphors.

It's worth taking note of the nuances, but it's hard as heck to write about them, particularly for anyone overwhelmed by the nuances given their own uncertain status. Perhaps you can capture them better than others.
